Wellness Activities

We have an experienced group of wellness practitioners all trained in their fields. Please refer to our Client Calendar of Services for the updated monthly schedule. Our range of wellness activities for adult clients includes:

YOGA

Gentle Yoga - Facilitator: Lucy Gainsback Description: In this class you will move your body gently into different poses that will build your strength and flexibility, while focusing on relaxation and mindfulness.

Monday Morning Yoga - Facilitator: Anne Burningham Description; This Kripalu Yoga class offers a gentle yoga with meditation, breath work and poses with modifications and options.

Tuesday Evening Yoga - Facilitator: Rebecca Fanning Description: This vinyasa yoga class emphasizes movement. You will work through a sequence of postures, utilizing your breath to assist you moving from one pose to the next without pause. Through this practice, you will increase your strength and flexibility.

MOVEMENT

Mindful Movement - Facilitator: Luanne Sforza PT, GCFP, Physical Therapist, Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner Description: Using the Feldenkrais Method®, we will explore and learn gentle, easy body movements for more efficient use of your body, relaxation and/or ease of motion.

Healthy Steps* - Facilitator: Alison DiPinto LPC, MA Description: A therapeutic movement and exercise program set to great music, designated to help you thrive!

Tai Chi - Facilitator: Nancy Ryan Description: Often described as “mediation in motion” Tia Chi helps bring about mental calm and clarity.

Zumba - Facilitator: Roxane Angotta Description: Zumba is a movement program that combines Latin and International music with dance moves.

MEDITATION

Midweek Mindfulness* - Facilitator: Kevin Berrill LCSW Description: A weekly meditation and discussion group to encourage mindfulness and self-compassion.

Book Study Group - Facilitator: Joe Gillotti Description: In this group you will study and discuss a book selected by the facilitator meant to help guide you to a greater understanding of ourselves, the world around us and how they affect our thinking and emotions. Offered periodically.

THE CREATIVE ARTS

Art Explorer- Facilitator: Lisa Ameijide Description: In this twice monthly class you will explore art and have a good time using a wide range of techniques and materials. All ideas are welcome in this class where we are guided by our imaginations.

Creative Writing: Finding our Way; A Writers Journey Facilitator: Chuck Jones, veteran English teacher and Graduate Fellow of the National Writing Project. Description: In this group, we will explore our ideas, feelings, lives, and stories as a form of self expression and healing. We will write together, share our work, and build a caring community of writers. All levels of experience are welcome!

Individual Music Lessons (guitar, piano, or clarinet) with Sue Polansky, music therapist with a BA, MA in music. Sue is a professional clarinetist and has played with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra, in off Broadway musicals, with Garden Variety & Hudson Crossing. She currently plays with the English folk dance bands - Serendipity, Idly Pom and Caliope. Offered in-person only at Ann’s Place

InStitches - Facilitator: Karen Gillotti Description: “Bring” a needlework project to work on or learn to knit or crochet!

Our Memoirs Group- Facilitator: Bob Becker, owner of Bob Becker Marketing & Communications, published author and published singer/songwriter. Description: Why do we write memoirs? To recall and preserve memories, to pass forward a personal message, or family history, or a story about an experience or achievement. To remember who loved us and who we loved in return. As a memoirist, or aspiring memoirist, first and foremost our job is to remember, to write or offer an oral memory. We needn’t be our own editors or critics. It’s not about structure, grammar, spelling, or cleverness. It’s about reflecting, receiving, resounding, and simply enjoying. Come and listen and participate when ready.

ART AND KITTEN THERAPIES

Art Therapy: Scheduled Monthly Facilitator: Graduate Level Art Therapy Interns from Albertus Magnus University Description: A form of psychotherapy involving the encouragement of free self-expression through painting, drawing, or modeling, It is a technique rooted in the idea that creative expression can foster healing and mental well-being.

Kitten Therapy - Facilitators: Marla Valentine MSW, Julia Cialone Description: This dynamic group which offers some levity and kitten cuddling while supporting participants through their own personal journey.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Mahjong: every Friday Facilitator: Marianne Gnerre Description: Mahjong or mah-jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. No prior experience is necessary to join the games.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture- Facilitator: Perry Levinson, DACM, L.Ac., LMT. Description: Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. It is the practice of penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles which are then activated through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner's hands. If you have questions regarding acupuncture treatment please feel free to email Dr. Levenson at plevenson@wholehealthyfamily.info. Available most Mondays by appointment.

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING COACHING

Facilitator: Tosha Gordon, Certified Health and Well-being Coach Description: Health and well-being coaching considers all aspects of the human experience to aid in the process of setting and attaining health goals. With the coach as your guide you will assess all areas of your life that affect your health and choose a focus area that will have the most impact on your overall health. In this 7-week program you will work with the coach to set a goal and be supported through steps towards that goal. Available by appointment.

REIKI

Reiki: An approach to healing that uses simple hands-on, no touch, or visualization techniques, promotes relaxation and improves the flow of life energy. Available throughout the month by appointment.
